How to Ditch Big Brother and Disappear Forever

The changing of addresses and spellings of names on bills and the like were some good advice, though. That I hadn't thought of. Of course, most of my mail goes to a mystery address anyway. :)

Dating For the Modern Man?

I'm not sure about this as the article writer doesn't say how old or how experienced her son is and it seems as though she has a huge generation gap in there.

This is how live my life

Posted on 09:35 by Unknown
"Most of our obstacles would melt away
if, instead of cowering before them,
we should make up our minds
to walk boldly through them."
- Orison Swett Marden

But it seems as though society isn't set up that way. Rules, laws and current "norms" are designed to strongly encourage us to be non-confrontational to our problems.

Have a problem with society? Blame a sub-culture or a politician. Have a problem with your neighbors? Don't confront, ignore. Have a problem with your co-workers? Don't complain, suffer through 1/3 of your daily life.

Whatever happened to addressing your problems, confronting them before they conquer you?

Most religions want you to give your problems to someone else, yet that remove your problematic co-worker or neighbor. Politicians, both red and blue, tell you your life is in your own hands, but to call the police (or other government agnecy) when you're having problems. Even your significant other will advise you to be non-confrontational to your problems.

Why?

What's wrong with addressing that bothersome neighbor? What's wrong with telling that co-worker they're creating a work environment that's counter-productive?

Why are we supposed to ignore our obstacles or use an intermediary when dealing with them?

Chrome, Ubuntu to Win 7

Posted on 09:39 by Unknown
I have a question and could really use some advice if anyone has an answer.

As some of you know, my computah took a crap on me this past summer. The motherboard fried as far as I (no stranger to computers, A+ cert in hand) and my roommate, a network engineer, could determine.

I was dual booting Ubuntu 10 and WinXP SP3, using mostly Ubuntu and relying on Win for limited operations.

Okay, so fast forward a few months and I'm on my brand spanking new laptop and while I've been able to get my files and whatnot off the old harddrive, I was wondering if there is a way to get my bookmarks from the Ubuntu Chrome and move them over to the Win7 Chrome. More importantly, if I could get the tabs I had open at the time, that would be great. But I can forgo the tabs if I could get to my bookmarks from that older Chrome set-up.

Any advice? A how-to, or link to a guide?

3,000 Years of Drinking While Pregnant Hasn't Already Shown Us This?

Posted on 23:13 by Unknown

How long have humans been drinking alcohol? In the form of wine and beer, I think more than 3,000 years. And since the stigma of drinking while pregnant is really only half a century old at best, how is this too far fetched to believe?

Light drinking during pregnancy: still no increased risk for socioemotional difficulties or cognitive deficits at 5 years of age? -- Kelly et al. -- Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health

So, like pretty much everything else in life, moderation is okay. not that I'm advocating drinking while pregnant, but if you want that glass of wine with dinner now and again, you're not going to turn your baby Republican.

The Christian Thing

Posted on 18:32 by Unknown

You know, I was wondering how this inaction by the firefighters to save a family's home was "the Christian thing" when I realized something we always seem to forget:

Bryan Fischer: Firefighters did the Christian thing in lett ...

we're looking at this from the wrong direction. This isn't about what Jesus would do, it's about what Christians would do and the Christian Bible is full of rape, murder, arson and pillage in the name of Abraham's god. So, yes, this was a very Christian act, because as we all know from TeaBagger rhetoric, God wants Christians to be rich, not save homes from burning to the ground for free.

All Hail Judicial Activism!

And there's nothing you can do about it. Score a win for conservative activism!

ReBooting Spider-Man

Posted on 17:52 by Unknown
While I don't like it, I understand the idea of the reboot, especially of a franchise that's 10 years old; gotta get in there and go back to the basics, because while comic book characters may never age out of their prime, actors and directors do.

Confirmed: Emma Stone Joins 'Spider-Man' - omg! news on Yahoo!

I think Tobey McGuire was a great Peter Parker and surprised everyone as Spider-Man, much as Michael Keaton did for his role as Batman and Bruce Willis did as John McClain.

Now, as Sony seeks to reboot the franchise after the dismal showing SM3 was, they've finally made a good casting call: Emma Stone. Let's face it, Andrew Garfield is about 30 years old and will be older than Tobey McGuire was when he first donned the red and blues. WTF? Was he the best choice to play a teenager? Really? There were no other actors closer to 20, 17 or even 16 as the character will be?

While I have some faith Sony doesn't want their golden goose to fail, I really hope they're making good decisions and not ruin Spider-Man's silver screen appearances.
